SOSA launches scholarship scheme for students of Suhum Senior High Tech (SUTESCO)

The Old Students Association of Suhum Senior High and Technical School (SOSA) in the Eastern Region has launched a scholarship scheme to help those students who make the needed university aggregates, and are financially weak to pursue tertiary education.

For years, some of the students who have had very good aggregates are unable to pursue tertiary education due to financial weakness, hence the setting up of the Scholarship scheme by the Suhum Old Students Association of Suhum Senior and Technical School (SUTESCO)

The scheme is expected to give motivation to the students to learn in order to have a future after school.

The event was graced by some prominent people in Ghana who were all old students of the Great SUTESCO known as ‘Abenfo’.

Suhum Secondary Technical School (SUTESCO), a co-ed secondary technical educational institution in Suhum in the Eastern Region of Ghana, and founded in 1963, has churned out many students who head many prestigious institutions within and outside the country.

National Welfare Officer for SOSA, Benjamin Johnson speaking at the event said SUTESCO becoming the number one school in terms of academics in the Eastern Region, is their target for now and urged the students to be focused to achieve their aim.

He again disclosed the putting up of measures to ensure that SUTESCO is recognized and maintained as a Grade A school in the country.

“SUTESCO being the number 1 secondary school in the Eastern Region is our target for now and I pray the students rally behind us by learning hard to achieve that aim”

“From there, we will be looking how our great school will be classified as a Grade A school across the country” Mr. Johnson said.

He also advised the students to refrain from any attitude that will not bring meaningful benefits to the studies.

“I want to plead with the current students to refrain from any bad behavior that will not bring anything meaningful to the learning”

“Smoking, running to town normally termed as ‘astro’, stealing and laziness are some of the things I pray the students stay away from to have the future they will be proud of” He said.

A beneficiary of the newly launched scholarship scheme Sosu David Owusu couldn’t hide his joy saying he thought his dream of having a tertiary education had faded until SOSA came knocking with the scholarship scheme.

He thanked the “old Abenfo” for giving him another chance to dream big.

He urged his colleague students to focus on their education to achieve their dream.

“I thought my dream of entering into the university was over when my parents told me they don’t have money for my tertiary education even though my results was okay to gain admission”

“I didn’t know what to do and God answered my prayers through SOSA, I am grateful to them for giving me the opportunity to laugh again” He said.

Ladies President for the Suhum Old Students Association (SOSA) Patricia Kuwornu hinted that there is a proposed scheme on the discussion table to help the teachers to teach the students well.
