The executive director of Jatikay Centre for Human Security and Peace Building, Mr. Sani Adib has called for resignation of the national security minister, Hon King Dapaa in what he described as a glaring national security failure on the part of the state concerning recent happenings at the Volta region .
According to him, the national security apparatus has demonstrated incompetence in handling what has become a crises situation in the region where a violent secessionist group keep terrorising peace and destroying properties.
He made these known on Ahotorfm morning show with Kofi Citizen.
“What is national security doing, he queried, according to the information minister, they had intelligence prior to the attacks, so why did they do, the group is ceasing police post, blocking roads under our noses and burning cars, what is the minister telling us ? , i think the national security minister should resign but its unfortunate in Africa, people often don’t take responsibility for their failures.”
On Friday, September 25, 2020, the group blocked roads linking the Volta Region to the Eastern and Greater Accra Regions.
Reports available to Ahotoronline.com suggest that members of the group allegedly broke into a police station in the Volta Region, stealing ammunitions.
They reportedly ‘kidnapped’ three police officers and assaulted them, with two of the officers said to be in critical condition.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, on Joy News confirmed the incident and said that an operation is underway to free the Police Officers who are currently being held by the secessionist group.
