Executive Director of Platform for Peace and Security Africa, Mr. Abass Osabutey questions why the military is used in internal issues which is not in line with their duty.
Speaking on Ahotor 92.3 Fm’s morning show Adekyimu Nsem, the security expert asked if the Ghana Police cannot handle such operation alone.
“If you deploy the military to supervise internal issues, they do that in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service” He said.
“The Ghana Police takes the lead role whiles the military follows” He added
Mr. Osabutey continued to say if the military is comes to a civilian territory, they implement civilian rules but that is not what we are seeing.
He said what is happening in some border towns with the voter registration is worrying.
Mr. Abass Osabutey warned going into the 2020 General elections Ghana needs to be careful.
“The Election Day is one single event and if someone is prevented to vote, he or she won’t have the opportunity to vote the next day so we need to be careful going into the elections”
He further alleged that some of the Security Services have reduced themselves to be puppets in the hands of political parties which has resulted in the services losing respect in the eyes of Ghanaians.
