Over 600 workers of Standard Chartered Bank in Ghana are set
to lose their jobs in June as the bank closes three branches.
The branches to be closed down are located at Tudu, Westlands
and Taifa in Accra.
Starrfm.com.gh sources say the staff have now been informed
of the decision after it was kept from them for a long while.
The source further revealed that the branches are being
closed because management has introduced a new technology that is capable of
doing their jobs in the respective branches.
Conversations are underway to duly compensate the affected
staff.
The development comes as the industry is yet to emerge from the
crisis that saw the collapse of some banks culminating into the Consolidated
Bank Of Ghana last year.
The Bank of Ghana has however said savings is rising as
confidence in the sector took a massive hit after in the wake of the crisis.
