Ghanaians would on Wednesday, December 7 go to the polls to elect a new president and 275 parliamentarians.
The Presidential and Parliamentary elections will start at all the 275 polling stations from 0700 hours and end at 1700 hours.
Seven presidential candidates are contesting for the highest office in the land.
They are President John Dramani Mahama of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC); Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP); Mr Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, Convention People’s Party (CPP); and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, National Democratic Party (NDP).
The others are Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, Progressive People’s Party (PPP); Dr Edward N. Mahama, People’s National Convention (PNC); and Mr Jacob Osei Yeboah, an independent presidential candidate.
The candidate who wins 50 per cent plus one of the votes wins the presidential contest and would rule for four years.
In the event of no candidate winning that ‘magic number’ in the first round, there would be a run-off between the top-two candidates in two weeks.
Figures from the Electoral Commission say, the voting population is 15,712,499.
There are 28,992 polling stations, 275 Constituency Collation centres and 1,158 candidates including 136 female contestants.
Ghana returned to constitutional rule in 1992 and has voted to elect presidents and members of parliament from that year to date.
The 2016 elections make the democratic process the seventh so far.
