Another bribery allegation has hit the Parliament of Ghana. This time, it is the uncovering of an old scandal involving the NLA, and the previous Parliament’s finance committee.
This latest Parliamentary corruption comes at a time a previous one involving the house’s appointment committee had hardly settled. And the public had also not gotten over the 2008 corruption allegations which gained Ghana’s parliament international prominence on the subject. Then, it was the entire house which was alleged to have been bribed to offload majority shares of the Government of Ghana in the then Ghana Telecom to Vodafon UK.
Though specifics of these allegations remain a subject of debate but what is beyond debate is that corruption in Ghana’s Parliament is a normal practice, except that it is bipartisan and done at the blindside of the public.
The challenge now is how to deal with Parliamentary corruption, especially the latest allegation, in a manner that permanently exorcise Ghana’s legislature of graft.
