Former Black Stars player Samuel Johnson insist the poor form of the Black Stars in recent times is a result of the mentality of most of the players.
The Black Stars downward spiral have resulted in a winless run in back to back African Cup of Nations tournament. Currently, the team is on the verge of missing out on Afcon 2025. A lot of factors have been discussed as possible reasons for the slump in form. Sam Johnson who played for the Black Stars in the 90’s and early 2000’s believe we are not short of talent but the mentality of most of the players is why we are not performing.
“Most of our players do not play like Africans because of their mentality. That is why they don’t step up when they play for Ghana. Watch the South Americans play for their national team and you will bear with me that there is always aggression. In Europe it is way too soft that is why our players need to change their mentality”
The Black Stars will have to step up in their next round of matches to instill belief in the heart of Ghanaians. Many people have questioned the attitude of the players due to disparity in performance at club level and national team. Samuel Johnson’s comments is cetainly a wake up call.
The Black Stars are up against Angola on 15th and Niger on the 18th of November in the 2025 AFCON qualifier.
