There is no political party that has empowered women than the NDC – Dr. (Mrs) Hannah Bissiw – Kotei.

The Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. (Mrs) Hannah Bissiw-Kotei, has asserted that the NDC stands out as the political party in Ghana that has provided greater empowerment for women Supporting her claim, she highlighted significant female appointments within Ghana’s political landscape, citing instances where the NDC has been at the forefront.

These include the pioneering appointments of the First Female Speaker of Parliament, First Female Electoral Commissioner, First Female Chair of the Council of State, and the First Female to be appointed at the Ministry of Justice.

In an exclusive interview by Kwame Acheampong of the Ahotor newsroom, Dr. (Mrs) Hannah Bissiw-Kotei emphasized that the NDC holds the distinction of being the first party to select a female running mate for a flagbearer.

Dr. (Mrs) Bissiw-Kotei, in an interview with Acheampong Kwame of Ahotor Newsroom during the inauguration of the PROFORUM Women’s Wing in Accra at the NDC Headquarters said, for the full development of any country, it is expedient that gender equity must be ensured.

In further substantiating her assertion, Dr. (Mrs) Hannah Bissiw-Kotei noted that during the NDC’s tenure in government, they secured loans specifically earmarked for constructing schools.

A portion of this funding was allocated to award girls with scholarships in science-related fields.

 She further highlighted another initiative wherein the NDC utilized part of the acquired loan to provide free sanitary pads for young girls.

Dr. Hannah Bissiw-Kotei emphasized that the NDC gives support to young girls in various capacities, showcasing the party’s dedication to empowering and uplifting the next generation of women.

According to her, a research in Ghana indicated that, some school girls stay away during their periods due to their inability to afford a sanitary pad.

This she said, informed the Party in its support to the girls, especially in the peri- urban and rural areas of the country.
