Okada operator battling for his life due to police assault

An Okada operator is presently battling a possible skull and spine injuries after some policemen at the Katamanso station in the kpone Katamanso municipality physically assaulted him.

37-year-old Timothy Ntokuni, who is currently on admission had the ordeal in the hands of law enforcers last Saturday around Zenu, in the Kpone-Katamansu Municipality at around 7:30pm.

According to the report, Timothy Ntokuni was returning from an errand for his brother with a severe headache when the police stopped him at their snap check point at Down Town, and enquired why he was not on a helmet.

He explained to them that he had the helmet but was experiencing headache for which he was even going to buy medicine.

He subsequently moved only for the officer to chase and cross him at a distant requesting that he returned and attempted to remove his ignition which he disallowed.

In an attempt to move, the policeman again blocked him with his motorbike where he (Okada driver) fell in the process. The officer then pounced on him kicking him on the ground with his foot and later called the patrol team who came to handcuff and sent him to the Katamansu station.

According the Okada man, the about eight uniformed men began beating him whiles handcuffed as a show of mastery of their authority.

One of the police officers went for a copper wire and flogged him until he fell unconscious and bleeding with bruises all over. He was thrown into the police cell under such condition.

It took the inmates to resuscitate him after which an investigator for the night duty to take his statement.

The Officer helped him to reach his brothers who came and rushed him to the Katamansu Health Centre and onward to a private health facility given the seriousness of his situation.

He managed to speak to our Greater Accra regional Rebecca Lartey on the sick bed.

The Medical Officer in charge of the Phanaroses Medical Centre, where the victim is currently on admission, Dr. Geshon Anku, told the Ahotor reporter that, the victim went off once, an indication of a possible skull injury from a hit on the head, a situation which can cause brain damage and claim his life eventually.

The victims is expected to undergo a head CT scan to ascertain any such injury for treatment but the victim is reported not to have the financial ability.
