The debate on Ghana’s greatest footballer ever has generated a lot of opinions and former Black Stars and Asante Kotoko player Rev Osei Kofi has also spoken on the issue.

In his view, anyone who compiles a list of all-time best eleven players for Ghana will do a mistake if the compilation is not done generation by generation.

The 1965 AFCON top scorer says that, he can only speak for Aggrey Fynn as the greatest captain football captain ever in Ghana and he has no qualms saying that.

Asked if Abedi Pele can be regarded as the greatest Ghanaian footballer of all time, he said Abedi can not even put himself in that category because he left early to play outside Ghana to earn money.

The two times AFCON winner for Ghana (1963 and 1965), contends that although Abedi Pele, won the AFCON title in 1982, he had minimal impact on the national team and played in the Ghana league for only a brief period.

“Pele’s playing career was mainly abroad , so if we speak of players who impacted Ghana, he doesn’t get close to me,” Osei Kofi said.

Osei Kofi is reported to have turned down an attractive financial incentive to play in England at his prime in 1969. He later became a pastor .

He has also worked as the National Coordinator for National Games.
