The government of the New Patriotic Party and the Minister of Interion Albert Ken-Dapaah must see to govern the country by providing enbling environment for national development and effective political communication on good governance.
This is the only way the government can discourge the comments and reaction from the academia and the civil society organizations which speaks their minds through all social media handles and the new media for communication.
The senior Lecturer at University of Cape Coast Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere discloses this on Adekyee Mu Nsem on Ahotor 92.3FM in Accra hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu.
He is of the view that, why the government did not come out with this statement in the year 2016/17, where citizens use all media platforms to address issues on governance and any othe issues of national interest.
Government statement on frame work on the social media going into 2024 elections is just unfortunate and unfounded. He believes any instability leading to coup has to do with bad governace and leadership crisis.
He opined that the NPP government abysmal performance couple with economic hardship all over the country is making the government uncomfortable on issues been raised from all these information platforms which is making the government unpopular.
He further stated that government has all the necessary architeure to determine what amounts to misinfortion and disinformion and can trigger any form of arrest if any citizens fall fault of the law.
He opined that, going into a critical election of 2024 where all the stakes are high the Electoral Commission position to regulate the traffic and the use of social media is very bzzare, since the comminssion is just trying to paint a picture to rig the elections in favour of the government.
This he said, what is difficult with the EC if the instution believes its doing everything rights, free and fair in all its election activities there is no need for this unfortunate call.
He reiterated that, there is a need for the government and all the institutions to carry out all the government business in creating enabling environment for national development.
