Ghanaian actor Chris Attoh recently shared a painful story about how his reputation was damaged by false accusations from a woman.
In an interview, he recounted an unsettling incident in which a woman, upset by his rejection of her romantic advances, spread rumors that he was gay. At the time, Chris was young and enjoying success as he frequently hosted shows. He remembered a particular event where a striking young woman, disguised as a costumier and wearing only a coat, approached him backstage.
Despite her allure, he chose not to engage with her. “She came in under the pretense of being a costumier. She was incredibly beautiful, and it would have been easy to give in, but I resisted. She was clearly disappointed by my refusal,” Chris explained. He continued, saying, “I questioned why I would exploit someone in my position.
If I had given in, it would have led to a scandal. In retaliation for my rejection, she vowed to spread rumors about me being gay, and soon enough, the story made its way into Graphic Showbiz.” When asked how he managed to stay resilient amidst personal hardships—including the tragic loss of his recent wife—Chris attributed his strength to his passion for acting. “With great blessings comes great responsibility.
Despite the pain, I’ve found inspiration to do better. My work is what keeps me going. We all have a purpose on this planet that’s greater than chasing dreams or achieving personal success. I lean on my work to help me move forward,” he said. Chris Attoh also faced significant personal tragedy when his wife, Bettie Jenifer, was tragically shot dead in Maryland, USA, on May 11, 2019. She was killed by an assailant around 5 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigators described the suspect as “a black male with a thin build and black hair, wearing dark clothing.” Chris and Bettie had married in 2018, following his divorce from Nigerian actress Damilola Adegbite.
