Security Expert, Peter Bismark Kwofie is calling on the next govt to put in place the adoption of a caveat to ensure that, State institutions are not packed with Political Party supporters, especially the Judiciary and the Security Agencies.
He noted that, State Capture by any govt undermines the democratic dispensation of the country, with the possibility of weak economy and the escalation of unbridled corruption.
State capture, he explained refers to the way formal procedures such as laws and social norms and government bureaucracy are manipulated by government officials, state-backed companies, private companies or private individuals, so as to influence state policies and laws in their favour.
Mr. Kwofie who is also the Executive Director of the Institute of Liberty and Policy Innovation (ILAPI), a Tema-based Think Tank was reacting to the Former President John Dramani Mahama’s comment of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) govt packing the Judiciary with sympathizers so as to protect itself even after it has lost power.
He noted that, State capture of the Judiciary and the Security agencies is the highest form of insecurity and destroys the governance structure.
Citing the same occurrence in Gabon where the Bench is piled with sympathisers of the ruling govt and the destruction of the Security Architecture.
Mr Kwofie was speaking in an interview on Ahotor 92.3 fm midday news in Accra.
The esteemed Security Expert attributed the poor economy and the escalation of corruption to the State capture perpetuated by the current govt.
Adding that, per the Capture, strong institutions are undermined giving rise to corruption, abuse of office and the creation of cronies among the electorates.
Under the circumstances, he said, citizens take vengeance and justice into their own hands through lynching and contract killings as the courts and the security agencies cannot defend them.
