Taxing the informal sector; the role of women – SWIT encourages women to do more for government

Society of Women in Taxation (SWIT) is calling on women to do more in terms of education on taxation to help the government get more revenue to develop the country.
This year’s maiden conference was with the theme “Taxing the informal sector; the role of women”.
The maiden edition seminar of the SWIT which took place at Coconut Grove Hotel in Accra on August 22 saw dignitaries like the Chief of Staff, Chief Director for the Ministry of Finance, representatives from Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), other professional bodies, and some invited guest.
Speaking at the occasion, the president of SWIT, Esi Duma Sam thanked the almighty God for this initiative and asked for his grace for a fruitful program. According to her, they hope for meaningful inputs and discussions to make SWIT an effective, result-oriented, and vibrant society.
She recounts the occasion of their visit to Nigeria together with the president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation conference of the Chartered Institute of Nigeria (CITN) IN May 2022.
She indicated that, in their return, she made some submissions to the governing council of CITG about the formation of SWIT in Ghana and its benefits to the mission of CITG.
Subsequently, the number of women joining the society led to the institution of the executive body through nomination. The first executives were inaugurated on 25th August 2022 by the president of CITG during our annual tax conference, she said.
In conclusion, she thanked and appreciated the chairman and members of the CITG governing council for their support in diverse ways, sisters of SWIT from West Africa, SWIT membership, sponsors PWC, PKF, and KPMG, for their enormous support to make this year’s seminar a success.
