National Deputy Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Malik Basintale is asking the President of the Republic Nana Akufo-Addo, and his NPP party why they accepted defeat in the Assin North constituency by-election and turn around to boycott the same person’s swearing-in?
Speaking in an interview monitored by Ahotor FM, Mr. Basintale indicated that, the congratulatory message from the President and the NPP on James Gyakye Quayson’s victory in the Assin North by-election was not from the heart.
According to him, it was an insult to the traditional leaders and the people of Assin North for showing up in Parliament to support their MP Mr. Quayson’s swearing-in while the NPP decided not to attend.
He said the NPP have to answer Ghanaians on why they walked out of Parliament during the swearing-in because such act was not going to stop the process of Hon. Gyakye Quayson becoming the legitimate MP for the people of Assin North.
Quayson last week won a by-election after the Supreme Court annulled the 2020 Assin North Parliamentary election on the grounds that he was not qualified to contest since he held a dual citizen at the time he filed to contest.
Minority Members in Parliament wore white to Parliament as a sign of victory.
Present in Parliament were many members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by former President John Dramani Mahama.
