The volta regional House of Chiefs has expressed its desire for a change in the process of appointing the Chief Justice in Ghana.
The president currently holds the authority to appoint the Chief Justice but the Volta regional House of Chiefs suggests that seniority should be the determining factor when filling this important position.
Togbe Terpri Hordor (iv) president of the Volta regional house of Chiefs expressed concern about the appointment of a junior justice over a more senior candidate as chief justice.
According to him, this practice negatively impacts the morale and reputation of the highest court in the country known as the apex court.
Speaking during an Institute of Economic Affairs IEA event held in Accra, Togbe Terpri Hordor (iv) advocated for prioritizing seniority when appointing the Chief Justice(CJ).
