The perception of golf for the elderly and retired has been affecting the promotion of golf in the country – Secretary General Aggrey
The Secretary General of the African Golf Confederation, Mr Michael Aggrey has attributed the low interest in golf to the perception of golf for the elderly and retired people.
In an interview with Ahotor Sports, Mr Aggrey explained that golf is a difficult game to deal with in terms of participation and its been associated with elderly and retired gentlemen and so that perception has hindered the promotions of golf in the country.
“The game of golf is a difficult one to deal with in terms of participation, we were doing very well in terms of growth before covid but unfortunately the lockdown and everybody was shut down, so the golf game slowed down for a while but it’s coming back together and I see a lot of young people coming together. ”
“Golf has been associated with elderly and retired gentlemen and so that perception has been affecting us negatively for quite a while but now we can see that a lot of young people both male and female are beginning to see the importance of golf, so I can say it’s on the up .” – he added
Mr. Michael Aggrey was elected as the first Ghanaian Secretary General of the Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) and has a four-year tenure, during the body’s elective assembly held in Egypt during a council meeting at the El Gouna Golf Club in Hurghada, Red Sea.
