Liverpool and Real Madrid directors will have lunch on Merseyside ahead of their clash in the Champions League, and while that is fairly standard procedure for the suits in Spain, the topic of their meeting will not be. The latest coming out of the Spanish capital is that they will discuss the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
According to Marca, they will try to clear up what the course of action will be with the England right-back. The Madrid-based paper emphasize ad nauseam that relations between the two sides are excellent, and say that Liverpool even picked up the phone in September to ask Real Madrid whether they were pursuing Alexander-Arnold, which they admitted.
With Alexander-Arnold stalling Liverpool and no progress on a contract renewal, the logical conclusion is that he will head elsewhere as of next summer. Yet during their lunch, which will take place at 13:30, Real Madrid will try to establish whether a deal in the January transfer window is possible – something that so far has been deemed unlikely.
