SHS Students in Psychological distress to face WASSCE – Dr. Akwasi Osei

Dr Akwasi Osei, CEO of Ghana Mental Health Athourity has called for psychological support for all SHS students currently preparing to write WASSCE in various secondary schools amid of COVID19 scare in schools.

He indicated that many of the students are currently traumatized in the face of numerous cases of COVID19 recorded across secondary schools.

Speaking to Kekaaku on Simpieso on Ahotor 92.3 fm, Dr. Akwasi Osei revealed that most of the students are in Psychological distress and that have the potency to affect their performance in the upcoming WASSCE.

Speaking on whether or not he supports the call to send the students home, Dr. Osei indicated that conversation should have been considered before sending the kids to school but calling the students back home at this point is no option. He added that what we can do to the students safe should rather drive national focus.

On what to be done to save the situation, Dr. Akwasi Osei proposed Psychological support in a form of counselling for all the candidates to help deal with the situation.
