Bawku Naba cautions Pastors against false prophecies

Naba Asigri Abugragoe Azoka II, Paramount Chief of the Bawku traditional area has expressed worry over the increasing numbers of people posing as men of God and misleading the public with false prophecies.

Such prophecies, he said were directed at people’s personal lives and that had the tendency to cause conflict within families and result in separations. Naba Azoka said this in a statement he issued to all the Churches in the Bawku area on Friday to bring to their notice, the harm such prophecies were causing.

He said many such cases were brought to his Council daily, with some family members being accused of witchcraft and causing harm to their relatives.

“These pastors come to form churches in this area and engage the community members in prayers and what they call deliverance services, then they prophesise about their lives and end up labeling some family members of their church members  wizards or witches”, he said. Naba Azoka noted that such prophecies usually turned out to be false and pitched family members against one another ending up destroying close relatives who had lived together all their lives in peace.

“We all believe in prayers and it is good to pray, but it should be done in a manner that will bring about peace and glorify God’s name and not conflict”. Naba Azoka called on the Pastors who engage in such prophecies to be circumspect about such messages to their clients, since they were generating fear and panic in the area. He threatened to ban such spiritual gatherings if they do not stop the false prophecies.
