Ghana’s Parliament on Friday, 26th November 2021 have rejected a motion that sought for the approval of the ‘Agyenkwa’ budget presented by the finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta on 17th November, 2021.
The minority in parliament voted against the motion when the speaker, Alban Bagbin put up the question. Subsequently, sitting has been adjourned till Tuesday 30th November, 2021.
Earlier on the morning, a group of protestors known as #FixTheCountry marched to parliament to present their grievances and agitations concerning the budget. Although there were some fractions, their messages were received by both minority and majority in parliament.
According to them, aspects of the budget on taxation are a hindrance to the progress of Ghanaians. Example of such tax they said is the Electronic levy of 1.75%
Ghanaians were watching with keen interest to see whether indeed, minority will stick to their position of not supporting the budget.
