At a Public Lecture organized by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress in thehonour of Jerry Rawlings, the newly elected speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon ASK Bagbin paid a warm tribute to the memory of Ghana’s first President of the fourth Republic Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings by describing him as a cause and the rest of them being the effect.
“As we are all aware, Rawlings is the cause and we are all the effect, many reffered to Papa J as charismatic servant leader but what i can say is that he was very infecrious.”
He confessed that a young military officer as Rawlings was in the early 80’s he succeeded in changing the lives of many Ghanaians including him and credited Rawlings for being the reason he got involved in active politics.
This was the first Public lecture organized by the NDC to honour the late former heard of state at Kama Conference Centre in Accra on Monday, 25th of January 2021.
Among the prominent personalities who graced the occasion and spoke were the National Chairman of NDC, Hon. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the general secretary of the NDC, Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, Rt Hon. A S K Bagbin, Alhaji Hudu Yahaya, Hon. Benjamin Kumbour and H. E John Dramani Mahama who gave the crossing remarks for the occasion.
The running mate of H.E John Dramani Mahama in the just ended elections Prof. Jean Naana Opoku Agyemang was present and several other dignitaries in the previous NDC administration were well represented.
Flt Lt. Jerry John Rawlings passed away at the early hours of 12 November 2020 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The funeral is currently underway at the State House, Accra.
