Works on Essipong progressing steadily – Peter Twumasi
The Director of the National Sports Authority Professor Peter Twumasi has said that the ongoing works at the Essipong sports stadium is progressing well and expect it to be complete in time.
The Sports Ministry together with National Sports Authority have decided to make sure that our sports facilities receive a facelift because of their bad state and Professor Peter Twumasi in an interview on Ahotor Kwanso explained that the contractor at Essipong Sports Stadium in Secondi is doing great work.
“Work at Essipong is going on smoothly, the contractor has removed all the roofing and work is ongoing and we are hoping to see more improvement in the coming days”
“The materials are better than the previous ones which can withstand the salty atmosphere at Secondi. We believe this renovation will correct all the past mistakes”
The football season is set to commence next month and Mr Twumasi claims the clubs in the areas will be using a different venue until work at the Essipong stadium is completed.
” We have started the temporary work at Gyendu Park which will allow clubs there to use it ahead of the upcoming season. We have also given the green light for clubs to use National Stadiums but there will be some conditions”
The government’s initiative to strengthen the sports sector was boosted by the plan to complete multipurpose sports complexes across the nation. Although some are not ready, the director says a few are ready pending approval from the sports ministry to hand over the various facilities to the NSA .
” Some of the newly Multipurpose Stadiums are even ready for use but only the Sports Ministry can give us (NSA) the green light
Mr Twumasi believes Kumasi Stadium will be concluded very soon for use because all the remaining materials are available.
