In response to a book titled ‘WORKING WITH RAWLINGS’ by Professor Kwamena Ahwoi,the former President, Jerry John Rawlings said the book was meant to paint and denigrating him as a person.
However, a statement released from the office of the former President, seem to note with concern contents of the book.
Professor Kwamena Ahwoi, an appointee President Rawlings, in his book, outlined events and actions taken by his boss during his tenure of office, but the former president disagrees with the professor.
Prof. Ahwoi’s controversial book also questioned Mr.Rawlings’ ideological depth apart from explaining events that occurred during the two decade reign of his tenure.
But in response to this, the statement described the book as lacking credibility resulting in some personalities quoting the book to publicly deny their contributions.
They have further disassociated themselves from the comments in the book.
This is a clear indication of the lack of credibility, thereof of its content.
Reacting to assertion that former president Rawlings did not support late Prof Mills during his administration, the statement said, Mr.Rawlings and his wife offered counsel and suggestions strictly to the good of Mills’ presidency.
He has always remained consistent in his open criticism of Pres. Mills administration which to date are still outstanding matters.
These include:
1. The failure of the Mills Government to investigate the assassination of the Yaa Naa and forty (40) of his elders.
2. President Mills’ inability to look into the death of Alhaji Issa Mobilla, the late Northern Regional Chairman of the CPP.
3. The failure of Mills Government to investigate and prosecute genuine fraudulent activities within President Kuffuor’s administration and to mention a few.
In conclusion, the statement said the truth is a debt owed to the memory of the departed as well as current and future generations.
The true legacy of the PNDC into NDC under President Rawlings, is one that ought to be acknowledged if there exists a fourth Republic that has endured.
