Some NPP bigwigs praying for defeat – Political scientist reveals

Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng, a Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has disclosed that certain influential figures within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are secretly wishing for the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections. Speaking in a media interview, Dr. Boateng suggested that this desire stems from an effort by President Akufo-Addo to retain control over the party even after leaving office.

“Some key members, on the quiet, are praying and hoping for defeat in the 2024 elections,” Dr. Boateng claimed, asserting that the motive behind this stance is to curtail President Akufo-Addo’s continued influence within the party.

Furthermore, Dr. Kwasi Amakye Boateng accused Deputy Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin of playing a role in orchestrating the removal of Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu. Dr. Boateng alleged that Afenyo-Markin was responsible for leaking information about the anticipated changes in the Majority leadership to the public.

“Afenyo-Markin himself was the person who disclosed that information; he is fully involved in any plot within the party, including undermining his boss,” Dr. Boateng asserted during a media interview.

These allegations surfaced amid rumors of a potential reshuffle in the majority leadership of Parliament, with speculation about the replacement of Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu by his Deputy, Alexander Afenyo-Markin. The National Council and NEC meeting of the NPP discussed this potential change, but no decision was reached.

Addressing the media in Parliament, a group of NPP MPs led by First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu warned against any changes. Dr. Amakye Boateng claimed that the lack of an internal investigation into the leak suggested that the Majority was aware of Afenyo-Markin’s involvement.
