Research allowance be paid base on research outcomes —– Dr. Newman advice

The Head of Planning, Research and Policy Development at the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission Dr. Emmanuel Newman has called for an increase in the amount of loan given by students Loan Trust Fund Students. This will enable beneficiaries to take care of themselves.

Mr. Newman also recommended that research allowances for Lecturers be paid base on research outcomes. This he believes as some lecturers receive their allowance without engaging in any research work.

Dr. Newman shared these insights during a panel discussion on innovative Financing for Tertiary Education at the National Education Week Summit held in Accra, focusing on the theme: Education Delivering for National Transformation the case for STEM and TVET.

In all, senior lecturer from the University of Professional Studies Prof. Ibrahim Mohammed Gunu also urged the government to grant tax free release to organizations providing financial support to Tertiary Education students.

He further called for increase funding in the Education sector to combat Education poverty.
