Don’t rely only on the District Assembly’s Common Fund – Dan Botwe.

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Daniel Kwaku Botwe, has urged local assemblies not to solely rely on the District Assembly Common Fund for their development.

Mr. Botwe admonished that district assemblies should consider improving their internally generated revenues to complement the District Assembly Common Fund

The District Assembly Common Fund is established by the District Assembly Common Fund Act 1993, (Act 455) under Article 242. The purpose of setting this fund is to provide resources to support the developmental activities of the local government.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly in Kumasi, Dan Botwe called for creativity in the local revenue mobilisation process.

The internally generated funds stay at the assemblies for their work and we all have to question it and ask why [they depend heavily on the District Common Fund.

The other aspect of the executive that we have to admit is to ensure that the Finance Ministry releases the money to the Common Fund as regularly as it should.
