Genevieve Nnaji recently discussed her challenges in seeking partnerships in Hollywood following the success of her 2018 film, LionHeart, which Netflix acquired for a reported $3.8 million.
Speaking at the 2024 AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum/Afreximbank Annual Meetings, she expressed her disappointment at the lack of support she encountered in Hollywood.
The actress highlighted the disparity between her expectations and the reality of the industry, emphasizing that she felt like a commodity whose value was being exploited for the benefit of others. Nnaji also shared her decision to prioritize contributing to the development of Nollywood over pursuing opportunities in Hollywood.
She expressed her belief in the potential for Nigeria’s film industry to thrive independently and tell authentic African stories to a global audience.
Despite her challenges, she remains committed to her vision of elevating Nollywood to a level where it can compete with other prominent film industries.
