Christian Daniel Dugan, the former Minister of Fisheries during the John Agyekum Kufuor administration, strongly criticized Western countries for continually pressuring African nations to accept and legalize LGBTQ activities.
During an interview on Ahotor 92.3 FM‘s Yepe Ahunu program regarding Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill, Mr. Dugan urged African countries to promote trade among themselves and reject the influence of Europeans who impose negative aspects on our culture.
“The American Ambassador said the President signing the anti-LGBTQ bill will hamper our international reputation and economy. Listen, it is high time Africans get up and trade among ourselves and come out to say that we are rejecting the Europeans dictating for us”.
“I’m telling you as a fact if all African countries decide not to trade with America, they will collapse. France gets 500 billion Dollars a year from the 14 francophone countries” he told host Nana Dogbe.
He pointed out the hypocrisy of the West, noting that they ignore atrocities against LGBTQ+ individuals in countries like Saudi Arabia. According to him, European and American countries are insistent on pushing Ghana and other African nations into accepting LGBTQ+ rights because they perceive these countries as vulnerable.
“In Saudi Arabia when you are caught LGBTQ+, you will be killed why aren’t the Europeans and Americans going there? That kind of hypocrisy is bad and they are treating us like animals” he remarked.
Mr. Dugan emphasized that embracing LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana would spell disaster for the country.
