NDC is optimistic with the 24 hour economy policy to transform the country — Dr. Ibrahim Zuberu

The economic team working with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has think and thought through with the twenty four hour economy policy looking at the reality the country is going through before announcing it to the public.

Even though the policy was part of the 2020 NDC manifesto, the team is very optimistic the policy is critical and strategic to bring change to revive the economy which has been mess up by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Senior Lecturer in Public Financing Management and Accounting of Accra Technical University, Dr. Ibrahim Zuberu said this on Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.

He is of the view that, the policy was thoughtful in considering all the bottlenecks and challenges confronting the economy; the only solution to arrest the ailing economy is to step up the productive sectors of the economy with the 24 hour economy policy.

Dr. Ibrahim Zuberu, opined that, with the high level of about 15% of the unemployed youth in the country, this policy is a game changer, to boast production to create more jobs along the supply chain with factories and agro processing industry of products which are in high demand.

Surprisingly, the United Kingdom is making deliberate efforts to reposition their economy back to increase production in the process to create more jobs for the youths in the UK.

This he believes it can be done here in Ghana, if the NDC government create enabling environment, with tax breaks, security and constant supply of electricity this economy can be turn around.

Going forward the government can table a bill to change the labour Act to incorporate the policy of the 24 hour economy to cover the industrial and labour sectors that will roll out the policy.

Speaking to Alan Kreymateng’s position saying it will be difficult to implement the 24 hour economy with this ailing economy, he believes that, where we are now; there is a need for moderation with the policy strategically with care to achieve a positive result in creating jobs and increase in production. Above all he believes NPP is bankrupt of ideas.

Touching on the Legislative Instrument on the limited imported goods, he said the economy is not viable in terms of production of food sufficiency to roll out this policy. And if care is not taken it will create shortage of these goods and it can leads to artificial increase of prices and corruption if the goods are in short supply.
