Ghanaian musician, Edem has raised worries that most musicians join Musiga with the main motive of enabling international travel rather than profiting from its innovative duty
He made the statement in an interview with Giovanni Caleb on 3FM Drive, exposing that MUSIGA membership is progressively required aimed at the only purpose of fortifying membership cards to advance visa applications for overseas travel.
He expressed disbelief about the union’s possibility to fulfil its core objectives.
“Mostly, people join MUSIGA because they want to travel abroad. They acquire the membership card for visa application purposes, and independently from that, there’s little else they engage in,” he said
But he recognised the past contributions of MUSIGA under the leadership of individuals such as Sidiku Buari and Diana Hopeson, Edem underlined the need for MUSIGA to run as a business to successfully serve the interests of musicians and ensure its lasting.
He took the opportunity to congratulate the newly elected MUSIGA President, Bessa Simons while stating his issues about the union’s future prospects.
