My government has invested GHC 115bn in education sector since 2017; GHC 12.96bn on Free SHS alone – Prez Nana Addo
President Nana Addo Danquah says, his government since 2017 has invested GHC 115 billion in the education sector since 2017.
Out of the amount, he said, GHC 12.96 billion had been spent on Senior High Schools (SHS).
He made this known in a 40-minute speech he delivered at the 61st annual Conference of the Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) held at the Achimota School in Accra.
President Akufo Addo explained, “at the senior high school alone, of which there are 925 schools, we have initiated a total of 1,105 projects, including accomodation and teaching and learning related projects from 2017 to date.
Out of this, 406 are classroom blocks of various types, science laboratories and home economic blocks, 386 dormitory blocks, 233 toilet facilities with 9 newly constructed model STEM SHSs spread across the country” he added.
President Nana Addo touted the achievements chopped in the education sector under his watch is outstanding and unmatched.
“No government in the history of the fourth republic has done more for growth in the education sector than my government” he reiterated.
Meanwhile, CHASS has called on the government to allow their schools procure food items to feed students due to the manner some suppliers disappoint them when it comes to delivery of food items on time.
The National President of CHASS, Rev. Stephen Owusu Sekyere who made the call also demanded an increase in monies allocated for all activities to meet the current increase in prices of goods and services.
“We are of the firm belief that procuring the food items by ourselves from our traditional suppliers will help to solve the acute shortages of food items in schools”.
