The second Gentleman of the United States of America, His Excellency Douglas Emhoff has expressed that sports play a vital role in gender inequalities.
Speaking at the First All-girls Junior NBA clinic at Trust sports Emporium in Accra, Ghana, Douglas Emhoff emphasized that it’s never true that sports are for the male gender only, but sports are for the female gender as well. Gender discrimination in sports remains deeply entrenched and fortunately tolerated around the world.
“Too often when are think about sports we think of men and that is not true, you can ask the WNBA champion here, sports are for women as well but gender discrimination in sports remains deeply entrenched and unfortunately related around the world and that’s wrong because we know the sports play a vital role in addressing these gender inequalities “.
“ We know when we lift young girls and women in sports we boost their confidence, we boost their self-esteemed and sports provide courage need to take on the challenges of this world and believe in yourself of you can do anything you set your mind onto and I want every young girl to know this, we believe in you and you can do anything you want in this world “- he added
The Jr. NBA, the league’s global youth basketball program for boys and girls, teaches the fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game – teamwork, respect, determination and community – at the grassroots level to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents. Jr. NBA programming has directly reached tens of thousands of youth in 16 African countries.
