Argentina is through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final following a 3-0 win over Croatia in a match played at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the spot-kick before Julian Alvarez netted a brace, including a sensational first half goal.
Croatia, until Tuesday, had been the team that wouldn’t lose, a group of checkered warriors who simply refused to concede. In six World Cup knockout matches since 2018, they’d gone behind seven times, and only failed to equalize once, in the second half of the 2018 final.
In doing so, Argentina will be playing either France or Morocco who will battle it out for a spot in the final on Wednesday.
This will be Argentina’s sixth World Cup final, and their first since 2014 when the lost to Germany at the Brazil games.
It is worth noting that Messi assisted in both Alvarez’s goal, meaning he has now bagged four assists and five goals for Argentina at this Qatar World Cup.
