Veteran musician and the acting President of musician union Ghana(MUSIGA), Bessa Simons calls for unity in the musician Union of Ghana(MUSIGA) and a supportive corporation within the sector.
He calls on all members and aspirants to support whoever is elected as a MUSIGA president to lead the team to take Ghana’s music to the world.
“We are all one people and doesn’t matter who is elected or given an opportunity as a MUSIGA President, the person needs to be supported by all members of the union. You don’t have to think that because the person is not from your camp means he or she can’t do the work”. He said.
“It’s a four-year tenure of office as a MUSIGA president, so whoever, is elected would leave after four years unless he or she still wants to contest again. Yeah, he or she would leave.” He said.
Speaking on Accra-based radio station Ahotor FM 92.3 on Friday, 24th June, made mentioned his plans for the music industry when he is elected as a president in their upcoming elections.
He talked about MUSIGA going digital, pensions for old musicians, providing education on the music for musicians, and GHC 5,000.00 to every musician who loses his or her partner, or relative, and finds himself in any situation, will be given GHC 5,000.00 straight away from the union.
He urges all musicians to be part of GHAMRO and MUSIGA for ease in collecting their royalties from sources to their benefit. He added that it will be difficult for GHAMRO to collect your royalties for you if you are not a member. He asked all board members and aspirants to support whoever is elected in the upcoming MUSIGA election for the betterment of the music industry.
