{Audio and Pictures} National Folklore Board inaugurates Ambassadors to help promote Ghana’s Culture

16 Regional Ambassadors and one International Ambassador, comprising traditional leaders and cultural activists have been appointed by the National Folklore Board to help promote Ghana’s Culture and to ensure regional presence and information dissemination across the country and beyond when Folklore is mentioned.

Their mandate is to preserve, protect and promote Ghana’s folklore in Ghana and to the entire world.

With the help of the National House of Chiefs, names of the qualified Ambassadors were sent to the Folklore Board where the deserved candidates were outdoored at the Tourists Information Centre in Accra on the 26th of May,2022.

The ceremony was attended by many dignitaries like the Osu Mantse, Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mark Okraku Mantey, Acting MUSIGA President Bessa Simons, Okyeame Kwame to mention few.

Executive Director of the Folklore Board Mrs.Bernice Ann Deh-Kumah called on Ghanaians to embrace their culture.

She expressed worries over influx of Asian and Mexican programmes on our local TV stations instead of Ghanaian contents which can also help as an avenue to promote the local culture.

The Osu Mantse, Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV said, Osu plays a key part in the history and story of Ghana hence needs to be told.

He further stated that people without a story are lost in culture that’s why Ghana’s story needs to be told to remember us what we are as Ghanaians.

He congratulated both the Ambassadors and Folklore Board.

On the part of the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey who sworn in the Ambassadors, he used the opportunity to urge Ghanaian parents to stop children from speaking just the English language at home.

He said it is the duty of every Ghanaian parent or guardian to make sure Children speak the local languages.

Mr Okraku-Mantey urged the ambassadors to play their role in the preservation and propagation of the country’s folklore, and pledged the support of the Ministry towards the effective execution of their mandate.

The Acting President of the Musicians Union of Ghana Bessa Simons pledged support from MUSIGA to help promote Ghana’s unique culture through music.

Chief Sulley Yakubu, Chief of Mamprugu, who is also the Folklore Ambassador for the North East Region, said the ambassadors would effectively discharge their duties in their respective regions in accordance with their mandate.

A poet who is also part of the Folklore Board Nana Asaase graced the ceremony with some spoken words.

Legendary Ghanaian Musician Okyeame Kwame the Rap Doctor he called himself also blessed the ceremony with some lines of his ‘Made in Ghana’ hit song.
