South African referee Victor Gomes has been handed yet another major CAF assignment to add gloss to his profile.
Gomes will handle the CAF Champions League final next Monday, which will pit the Pitso Mosimane coached Al Ahly against Wydad Casablanca at the Stade Mohammed V.
Such have been the big appointments for Gomes this year that he has already handled the AFCON final between Senegal and Egypt.
Gomes is also heading out to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup later this year.
For his latest assignment from CAF, Gomes will have fellow South African Zakhele Siwela as the first assistant with Sauro Phatsoane from Lesotho as the second assistant.
According to the communication from CAF to all concerned parties, Angolan Helder Carvalho will work as the fourth official with another top official Bamlak Tessema of Ethiopia as the video assistant referee.
Gomes has already handled quarter-final, and semi-final matches in this season’s Champions League having officiated the last-eight clash between ES Setif and Esperance before handling Wydad’s game against Petro de Luanda.
He has taken charge of seven games on the international scene this year.
Through the years South African referees that have officiated Champions League finals include Daniel Bennett, Jerome Damon, Robin Williams, Petros Mathabela, and Ian McLeod.
