Majority ambushed Minority with e-levy – Lanchene Toobu

The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu says, the majority in Parliament ambushed them with the controversial e-levy

According to him, they, from the minority side didn’t know the e-levy will be debated and voted on in parliament yesterday, Tuesday March 29 because it was not captured in Parliament business for this week

Speaking to Citizen Kofi Owusu on Adekye Mu Nsem, the Wa West lawmaker explained that, the position and posture of the majority clearly indicated that, they had everything planned out and that, they were going to pass the e-levy at all cost and so needed to take a strategic decision to resist it

“We didn’t know anything about it. We were taken by Surprise, it was a total ambush”

“It was so planned so they decided to use any tactic to cut down our numbers to have their way. I mean, how could they invite four of our MPs in the Northern Region to a commissioning of an interchange while they know they had sneaked e-levy into parliament business?” he asked

“We needed to device a strategy because politics is about strategy, therefore, we staged a walk out because we did not want to be part of it. We have proceeded to the supreme court to challenge the passage of the e-levy” he added

Hon Lanchene Toobu stated that, they are looking forward to a justifiable outcome from the supreme court

Asked whether he has confidence in the court, he replied, “if we loose confidence in the supreme court, it will be a disaster to the country”

“I, Peter Lanchene Toobu believe in the court. My prayer is that Supreme Court should let justice prevail but if the court decides to do otherwise, people will start taking the law into their own hands as time goes on”

Earlier in February last month, the minority chief whip, Muntaka Mubarak stated on the floor of parliament that, they do not want the situation where an attempt will be made to introduce the e-levy bill because any attempt to do that will be ambushing

Hon Muntaka stated emphatically that, “if the bill will be introduced unplanned, that we will not accept it”
