A vote of rejection was passed on the budget by the minority side on Friday, November 27, 2021, after the majority side staged a boycott of proceedings.
The majority side in the absence of the minority who stayed out of the chamber on Tuesday after overturning the rejection vote of Friday, also voted to approve the 2022 budget.
There was chaos and heated confrontation between the two sides today, 1st December, 2021 in parliament.
These fractions came when the minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu moved a motion to reverse approval of the 2022 budget quoting from the constitution governing parliamentary proceedings indicating there were breaches in the standing orders of the House.
But, the deputy speaker Joseph Osei Owusu overruled the motion and claimed “I am not the Speaker.”
This statement by the first deputy speaker has sparked some controversies of which the minority caucus are asking the power on which he stood to render the rejection of the budget last Friday null and void.
Speaking to Hon. Sulemana Adama, the MP for Tain constituency on Simpieso, the hottest political show this afternoon on Ahotor FM hosted by Emmanuel Martey, Alaska De Don, he stated that there are certain portions in the budget which in reality will pose serious economic hardship on the ordinary Ghanaian for which they are calling for reforms.
Such portions according to him included, the electronic levy of 1.75% which they suggested to be reduced to 0.5% on a minimum transaction of 500gh cedis instead of 100gh cedis, Egyapa royal deal, Acer energy deal.
“We want governance to go on but the budget in its current form will make Ghanaians poorer”, he explained
