Barely few days after being elected into office as Chairman of the largest opposition party in Ghana, the Ofosu Ampofo led NDC has given every indication that it’s ready to rock for victory in 2020.
The new administration has announced it readiness to work within 10 days after taking over from the old executives.
The first 10 days has been full of activities for chairman Ampofo and his team who are poised to liberate Ghanaians from economic hardships, unceremonious plunder and other numerous scathing scandals of corruption under this Akuffo Addo led government.
The party held its first Functional Executive Committee (FEC) meeting within the first week which was followed by National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The new executives were then conveyed to Ada where a 3- day orientation and sensitization program was organized to usher both national and regional executives into their various fields of engagement and all these were done within the first 10 days giving an indication that the team is ready to vigorously pursue its mandate.
Again one key promise made by Chairman Ofosu Ampofo during his visit to the 275 Constituencies is the provision of identity cards for all party executives from the national to the Constituency level, this according to him will help address the problem of identity verification often experienced by party executives especially when they travel from their Constituencies to other Constituencies or party headquarters.
During his campaign tour, he promised to address this challenge 6 months after being elected but barely few days after assuming office, a team has already been deployed to take personal details and photographs of all national executives for their id cards , an exercise which will soon be extended to all the 275 Constituencies in the coming days in the fulfillment of the promise made.
This swift administrative intervention goes to confirm the long held perception about Chairman Ofosu Ampofo as an action man, a man with a high sense of purpose who always achieve results, many in the political circles have already marked him as a leader who would take the NDC party far.
Among other activities, the party has come out with guidelines leading up to the 19th January, 2019 flagbearership elections. Presidential aspirants are to cough out a whooping 420,000 cedis which is equivalent to 4.2 billion old cedis as filling fee for male aspirants and female counterparts are to pay half of the fee.
Many Ghanaians have expressed worry about this exorbitant fee being charged considering the NDC party as a liberal social democratic party built on the principles of equity and fairness but the general Secretary of the party, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah shares a different perspective on the matter, according to him people who are committed to lead the NDC should not be scared by the fee and also laughed off concerns that the flagbearership of the party is for the highest bidder.
He indicated that social democracy is not equivalent to poverty, democracy is an expensive commodity and individuals who put themselves up to lead a party like the NDC should be persons of higher standing in society.
The party at the weekends held a thanksgiving service to offer thanks and glory to the Almighty God for a successful national delegates congress. All the big guns in the party joined in the thanksgiving service giving an indication of bond of cohesion and unity existing among the top echelons of the party.
