(LISTEN): Your actions were wayward-Chiefs of wassa Faise condemns youth

The Chiefs of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area in Western Region, has under the leadership of Okatakyie Ntsiful Essel the Paramount chief of the Wassa Fiase Traditional council has condemned the attacks by the youth of Wassa Benso at the Benso concession of Golden Star Wassa Limited which resulted in the burning of several properties of the company leaving some persons injured.

Speaking at the press meeting, Kyeamehene of the Wassa Fiase traditional council and the Chief for the people of Essikuma Bonsawire, Nana Ampong kwesi said, the chiefs and elders and since an elderly person does not overlook wrong ,they can’t tolerate what the youth did.

He said though they agree with the youth to demonstration which the laws of our country permits, they will support a demonstration that led to damages of properties and injuries at ll.

He added that, the actions by the youth has a lot of bad consequences on their land.

He said people will not like to invest in the area because of insecurity which will lead to losing investors, the mining activity in the area will collapse, bad name of the country’s market will be portrayed, as well as lack of job for people in the community.

He further warned chiefs, political powers, and the entire Benso community to avoid interfering in police investigations to avoid an additional happening.

Report has it that about 400 people have been arrested after a police gun got missing during the incident.

Okatakyie Ntsiful Essel was disappointed in the youth for their actions and urged them to refrain from such behaviors as it doesn’t bring development the area.

The youth alleged that the Golden Star Wassa Limited in an encounter with them had shot one of their men dead hence the anger to cause the damages.

Meanwhile management of the company says, the youth are involved in illegal mining activities on their concession.

According to them, several warnings have been issued, to put a stop to their activities but to no avail.
