Sportsmen and Women To Receive International Olympic Committee (IOC) Funding and Scholarships.
Ghanaian Athletes are to receive an amount of $750.00 (GHC 9,280.90) every month from January 2023 to the end of the Olympic Games in Paris summer of 2024.
President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah revealed towards a comprehensive and strategic advancement of the various arms of the Ghana Olympic family, support for National Federations (NFs) and athletes with potential, continues to receive timely boosts.
Some outstanding athletes will receive their Olympic Scholarship at the Olympic House in Accra.
Upon assumption of office and up until 2022, the leadership of the GOC has been working tirelessly to submit various reports to the IOC, to justify Ghana’s request for funding, support, grants, and scholarships for various Athletes and Federations.
Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah GOC President confirmed that the committee secured several highly prized support packages and grants for some national federations and athletes.
Steps are also far advanced by the GOC to secure ANOCA Scholarship for an additional 5 athletes from Ghana.
A continental Athlete Support grant of $100,000.00 spread over 2022, 2023, and 2024 has also been approved for Ghana and the first tranche of $40,000.00 for 2022 has been allocated to Judo, Swimming, Golf, Weightlifting, and Handball.
Mr. Nunoo Mensah reiterated the team effort that has gone into securing the Scholarship.
“It is a process and sometimes it can be extremely arduous but the GOC executives and board will continue to work even harder for more”.
Second tranche in 2023 support allocations which will go to Fencing, Athletics, and two other Federations that will have activities in 2023 and apply accordingly.
An additional 2023 tranche will go to Basketball, Triathlon, and Badminton, while that of 2024 will be given to federations that will apply and have not yet accessed any earlier funding.
