CAF Women’s  Champions  League qualifiers: Ampem Darkoa cruised into the final with a win over African Sports 

Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies defeated Ivorian side African Sports 6-5 on penalty shootouts in the semi-final of the qualification tournament in Yamoussoukro on Wednesday evening.

African Sports unsettled the Techiman-based women’s Premier League outfit with an early goal, pushing the first half to a 1-0 lead at the Stade Yamoussoukro.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies warmed themselves into the second half with the hopes of getting the leveller and a match-winner to book their spot in the final.

In the 60th minute, Gloria Amfobea brilliantly snatched the equalizer for the ‘Nanamma’ lads with a fine strike to push the fixture into a 1-1 stalemate.

Ampem Darkoa were reduced to ten women after Ophelia Amponsah was shown a straight red card by the referee in the 66th minute of the game.

No goal was produced after the thirty minutes of extra time at the Stade Yamoussoukro which forced the game into a penalty shootout

Ampem Darkoa Ladies stood supreme in the shootouts after winning 6-5 against the Ivorian top-tier club to make it to the final.

Ampem Darkoa becomes the second Ghanaian club to reach the final of the competition since its inception after Sekondi Hasaacas — winners of the last edition — in 2021.

Ampem Darkoa will face the winner of the second semi-final match between Espoir FC of Benin and Nigeria side Bayelsa Queens in the grand finale this weekend.

The winner of the final will automatically qualify for the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
