Tell Dampare to forgive me’ – Rev Owusu Bempah breaks silence as NPP ‘fights’ to free him

Embattled clergyman Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah has broken his silence in detention, telling an associate to tell Acting Inspector General of Police George Akuffo “Dampare to forgive me if I have said or done anything to offend him”, .

Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah was admitted to the Police Hospital Outpatient Unit and was examined by a Doctor all without handcuff.

After numerous calls were placed to higher-ups in the political space by Rev. Owusu Bempah’s camp, the handcuff was removed after a further reinforcement of 7 armed police commandos were deployed to the hospital by another order from above.

This created a scene at the police hospital as political figures such as Hopeson Adorye and Ernest Owusu Bempah had stormed the police hospital to check on the embattled pastor Owusu Bempah.

In the ensuing confrontation between the police and the visiting faction led by Hopeson Adorye, some of the armed police officers threatened to shoot off the head of Hopeson Adorye if he took one step.

This is after the police officers said they have an order to remove the drip on Rev. Owusu Bempah and take him back to his holding cells but which Hopeson Adorye and others resisted as they believe the man needed medical care.

The standoff which lasted for several minutes saw the handcuff placed back on Rev. Owusu Bempah as he was driven top

Earlier, efforts by John Boadu, General Secretary of the NPP to get Rev. Owusu Bempah bailed out the Dansoman police station was refused by the police based on “orders from high above” in the police service.

Further intervention by Ama Busia, an elderly stalwart of the New Patriotic Party to get Rev. Owusu Bempah out also proved futile.

Tell Dampare to forgive me

In an emotional message, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah is quoted by a trusted source who was with him at the hospital as having told him ” to tell Dampare to forgive him if he has offended him”.

Rev. Owusu Bempah believes that the Acting IGP may have an axe to grind with him hence his tightening of the noose around his neck.

Several police officers deployed to Rev Isaac Owusu Bempah did confirm that the Acting IGP is the one giving the orders on the Rev. Owusu Bempah case.

A common phrase heard is “Dampare said… Dampare said”.
