THE ENDORSEMENT OF TEACHER LICENSURE EXAMS BY (CETAG) IMPLIES THAT EXAMS CONDUCTED FOR TRAINING TEACHERS ARE SUBSTANDARD – JOHN MAHAMA

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress NDC John Dramani Mahama content that, the endorsement of teacher licensure exams by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana(CETAG) implies that examinations conducted for training teachers are substandard.

CETAG has expressed opposition to a proposal by John Mahama to eliminate teacher licensure exams.
President of The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), Prince Obeng Himah, has voiced his disagreement. Himah believes that the examination is a good initiative and should not be discontinued.

The National Teaching Council (NTC), an agency under the Ministry of Education, introduced the Teacher Licensure Examination in 2018.

The purpose of the examination is to license teachers who teach or wish to teach in public pre-tertiary schools in the country.

The Ministry of Education has stated that this move is in accordance with Section 12(4) of the Education Act, 2008 (Act 778), which mandates the development of a program of study leading to a teaching license in consultation with the Council.

But during his address to students and staff at the St Joseph College of Education in Bechem in the Ahafo region, John Mahama stressed that the standard for licensure examination should be incorporated into the examination taken by training teachers throughout their first to third years of study.
