Sakumono Beach Transformed: MCE Vows Trash-Free Era

The Tema West Municipal Assembly, led by the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE),Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, led a vigorous sanitation exercise at Sakumono Main’s Titanic Beach, rallying residents to reclaim the area from litter. The initiative highlights the assembly’s renewed push for a cleaner municipality, with Hon. Totimeh personally spearheading the clean-up to set a strong example.

In an exclusive interview, the MCE lamented persistent challenges despite repeated efforts. We’ve organized several clean-ups, but community participation remains abysmally low, even with widespread announcements, he said. Hon. Totimeh called on residents to embrace shared responsibility for maintaining hygiene in their neighborhoods.

He issued a firm ultimatum: no more unauthorized refuse dumps. A dedicated task force will now patrol communities regularly, ensuring compliance. Anyone found violating this will be dealt with decisively, the MCE warned, vowing that Tema West will stay pristine long after the exercises end.

The event gained added weight with an unannounced visit from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. A supervisory team, headed by Mr. Kwaku Quansah, Head of Environmental Health and Management, observed the operations closely.

Mr. Quansah lavished praise on Hon. Totimeh and his team for their unwavering dedication. This level of commitment is exactly what’s needed, he affirmed.

Extending his message nationwide, Mr. Quansah urged all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to enforce rigorous cleanliness protocols. Without strict measures, the dirt will creep back,  he cautioned, stressing that sustainable sanitation demands relentless action from local leaders.
