Breaking News: Ayitey Powers Arrested Over Alleged Death Threat Against NSA Boss

Former Ghanaian professional boxer Michael Ayitey Okai, popularly known as Ayitey Powers, has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command over an alleged threat of death against National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

 

The 46-year-old was arrested on Monday, August 24, 2026, following the circulation of a video on social media in which he is alleged to have issued the threat against the NSA boss.

 

According to the Police, Ayitey Powers is currently in custody and assisting with investigations as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged threat.

 

The Accra Regional Police Command, in a statement signed by Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, said appropriate action would be taken in accordance with the law based on the outcome of the investigations.

 

The Police have also urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information about the case while investigations are ongoing.

 

The arrest comes days after the Ghana Boxing Interim Management Committee (GBIMC) called for Ayitey Powers to be investigated and, where appropriate, prosecuted over the alleged remarks against Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.

 

For now, Ayitey Powers remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
