Otumfuo’s call for ECG privatization is merely a way to encourage Ghanaians to vote out the NPP – Buem MP

Kofi Adams, the Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, has responded to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s suggestion that privatizing the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) would resolve its issues. Adams believes that privatization alone cannot solve the company’s problems.

According to Adams, Otumfuo Osei Tutu’s call for ECG privatization is merely a way to encourage Ghanaians to vote out the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II made a strong statement during the commissioning of a 430-kilometer natural gas pipeline by Genser Energy in Kumasi on April 17. He urged the government to privatize key state-owned entities involved in power generation and distribution, such as the Volta River Authority (VRA), Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), and ECG. The Asantehene believes that privatization could improve efficiency and service delivery, as well as attract more investment to the country.

He emphasized the importance of private sector involvement in these institutions and suggested that government policies should focus on attracting investors to foster economic growth and job creation.

In response, Kofi Adams stated on Ahotor 92.3 FM that privatizing ECG might not be the optimal solution. He stressed that the key to addressing Ghana’s challenges lies in electing competent leaders to govern the country.
