The concept of remembering is a political act of creating a continuous narrative of the self.
Memories are not passive recollections but active constructions. Membering as a derived
Verb, as deduced from the word “member” which is a constituent piece of a complex
Structure brings us to think about a kind of conscious archaeology of the mind. So we are not
Just remembering, but dissecting how a memory is formed. The sensory cues, emotions,
Contexts, assumptions, and if you may; the architecture of our collective or individual
Archived thoughts. In simpler terms, exploring how and why a memory feels the way it does,
What it is constructed from, and how we can use it to redesign the future.
By unpacking or engaging with historical, research-based, traditional, contemporary,
Material, incorporeal, academic, vernacular, social or ecological contexts, we explore how
We can reimagine what memory does to us and what we do with memory between the past
And the future. To explore how we can see memory as an occupant not only of our thinking,
But in imaginary existential or spiritual capacities, to endeavor to use memory as a
Collaborator. We sense history’s visible grips on the now, while reflecting on current and
Compelling narratives, movements, climates and resource distributions.
In Asante Twi, the meaning of Kai translates to remember. In Hawaiian, it translates to “Open
Ocean” while it means “Shell” in Japanese culture. Kai is a short form of the Swahili word
Kaimbe that translates to ‘fighter.’ In Cantonese, it can mean “walking the street or road” and
Refer to an excursion for leisure, shopping, and sight-seeing. In the anime Dragon Ball Super,
“Kai Kai” is a technique for instant teleportation. In Hausa, it means “you” but adds
Emphasis, as if to say “you yourself.”

Any form of experimental, spatial, multi-sensorial, archive-based, musical, vocal, literary,
Visual, multidisciplinary, technology-based work is acceptable. Within our ethos, it makes
More impact when the work is community-based, interactive and decolonial in terms of its
Storytelling capacities with the concept in mind. Essentially, to open space for our generation
And the generations yet to arrive the inspiration for their own engagement with the topics and
Uncovering that emerge.
