Queiroz Describes Ghana Job as Emotional Homecoming Ahead of Unveiling at Alisa Hotel

Black Stars head coach Carlos Manuel Queiroz spoke passionately about the Ghana job ahead of his official unveiling at 1pm local time today at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The experienced Portuguese tactician, who arrived in the country earlier this week from Portugal, expressed profound personal connection to the role as he prepares to lead the four-time African champions at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Reflecting on the opportunity with deep emotional resonance, he said, “I have strong African roots, being born and raised in Mozambique, so the prospect of leading Ghana, a powerhouse of the continent, to the World Cup is truly unforgettable. It is not just another job; it is a homecoming to the soil where I was born.” He told the Sports Ministry.

Queiroz, aged 73, brings a wealth of international experience to the Black Stars, having previously managed teams such as Portugal, Iran, South Africa, and most recently Oman, as well as serving as assistant at clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid.

His appointment by the Ghana Football Association comes after the departure of Otto Addo, with the GFA emphasizing his proven World Cup pedigree to steer Ghana through a challenging group stage that includes matches against Panama, England, and Croatia this June.

In his first interactions since landing, the coach has vowed to embrace the position with gratitude, responsibility, and humility, describing it as a mission rather than a mere contract.

He has promised to channel his extensive knowledge into building unity, discipline, and ambition within the squad, while honoring the rich footballing heritage and passionate support of the Ghanaian people.

The press conference at the Alisa Hotel will provide him the platform to outline his technical philosophy, address the media, and formally introduce himself to fans, setting the tone for what many hope will be a memorable campaign on the global stage.

Expectations are high as the nation rallies behind a coach who views this role not only as a professional challenge but as a heartfelt return to his African origins.
